About Me

My name is Ian Adie and I am an aspiring software engineer from Glasgow, Scotland.

This website is here to tell the world a bit about myself, and also to showcase the software projects I have been involved in. Just now I'm spending most of my time developing for Google Android, and my current application 'Etsy For Android'.

When I'm not sitting in front of my computer I can be found Thai boxing with the Scottish Muay Thai Council or trying to rehome greyhounds with the Greyhound Awareness League.

Stuff I Do

Etsy For Android

Etsy.com is an online market place for handmade goods including art, clothing, jewellery, and toys. EtsyForAndroid is an interface for Etsy.com for use with Android powered mobile devices. It currently has over 5000 downloads.

The application is written in Java for the Google Android platform.

Version 2.02 of EtsyForAndroid is in the Android Market now.

UniversalBar.co.uk

UniveralBar.co.uk is a website I designed for the bar I worked in during my final year at uni. It includes information about the bar, food and function hire. It also includes a 'book online' feature to allow for table bookings online.

The website was written in XHTML and PHP with a bit of Javascript and AJAX thrown in to improve the look and feel.

TinyPicURL

TinyPicURLs was my final year project at the University of Strathclyde. It involved creating a web application and accompanying mobile application capable of replacing URLs with a grid of colour, a colour barcode for URLs. The mobile application could then be used to photograph this barcode to navigate directly to the URL in question. The idea is that these barcodes could be used as a "clickable" link in product advertisements.

The web application was developed using PHP, in particular its graphics capabilities in the GD library. The mobile application was developed in Java for the Google Android platform and was successfully tested on the HTC G1 handset. Screenshots for the mobile application can be found here.

Mark:72% "Clearly demonstrated that the project goes beyond what was initially required and the approach goes beyond what has been taught"

Where Art Thou?

Where Art Thou? was a group project undertaken for the class "Multimedia Information Access". It is a search engine which searches Shakespeare plays and gives the title, act and scene of the occurences of the words entered.

The application was written in JSP and runs on a Tomcat Server. The searching was done using Apache Lucene, a project which provides searching, indexing and related libraries for use in java development.

Android

Obviously, I quite like Google Android.

CyanogenMod

If you have a device that supports CyanogenMod then you should be running it. I've been enjoying Android 2.1 (Eclair) on my HTC G1 for a while now with some extras thrown in such as tethering support and support for apps on SD cards.
